AleksejHeinze,

Home now. But loved hearing a bit more about n0tice and also Salford lads' club's take on bringing social media to life through their heritage. Can't wait to visit the working class movement library to find out about nightshift workers for my next documentary. More soon... everyoneandeverything.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/heritage-et-al/

erinmaochu,

Great slogan on the wall of the museum from Marx
"philosphers only interprete the world, the point is to change it"

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

The library holds books from the 1800's onwards as well as pamphlets, banners and posters concerning the working class movement.

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Leslie says back in 1904,the camps gave Salfordians their only chance to go away from the city for a holiday.
Sadly in 2011,many kids in Salford do not still the chance to go on holiday

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Leslie Holmes, who is the project manager for the club is now talking.
One of the reasons he says for its founding, was the need to get Victorian boys gangs off the street.
The club is independantly funded, most of its visitors today come because of its association with the Smiths
Groups of fans have their photos taken outside, getting them in,says Leslie,is the hard part

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Lads' club helped put an end to Victorian Street gangs.Fred Done was a lad and he supports it - renovated the boxing gym. The Smiths link is really important, people worldwide turn up to get their picture taken but it's important to get them inside.

User avatar
SarahHartley,

Once people get into the lads club, it's not all about The Smiths. Past 10 years the place has got a vibe about it. Donate via text SLGC111

User avatar
SarahHartley,

One of the members of the club was Eric Coleman who played for Manchester United and was one of the victims of the Munich air crash

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Yes that John Popham gets everywhere

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

The club was opened back in 1904 by Lord Baden Powell
This year saw the 100th camp for the club
The club is used for many film sets including recently as a set for a play about the early life of Eric Morecombe

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Salford Lad's Club now, just been treated to that picture with John Popham! People get to go on the tour.

User avatar
SarahHartley,

Now another N0tice user Steven Flower is talking about the famous Salford Lads club.
He has been organising social media surgeries at the club.

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

N0tice,says Sarah, gives the user the ability to home in on their location and define just how local you want your news and information to be

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

"A future no longer controlled by a single newsoaper but instead of an ecosystem made up with many players with many motives"
Jeff Jarvis
There are three challenges to the future, continuity, revenues and mobile

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

The Ventnor blog,Kings Cross and Haringay online are being used as examples of hyperlocal communities.
Hyperlocal sites like these and the hundreds around the country are empowering communities

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Next up is N0tice's very own Sarah Hartley talking about ......N0tice.
The biggest thing that has driven the project she says has been the growth of hyperlocal media-dog poo, democracy and the search for digital revenue

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

The Company's biggest market today, accounting for nearly 80 % of its sales, is plastic library cards.

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Kath Doran is now talking about Innovation through Heritage.
She works for Spectrum Plastics, established back in 1922 as colour printers.
The Company she tells us has a rich heritage, including a log book of all its employees and their occupations

User avatar
NigelBarlow,

Fellow noticer Aleksej ://www.n0tice.com/user/AleksejHeinze spoke aboutvhis project for business cultural heritage - maybe he'll post that on his noticeboard.
6th. Is business group Salford. Has some pictures showing the vision for the future. Big social enterprise culture setting up.@thebusinessgrp. Members meeting 24 nov.

User avatar
SarahHartley,

5th. Carolyn Downs talking about bingo. Wildly inaccurate stereotypes about being for older women. Took of after the war because of holiday camps. Was illegal other then for charity so many charities benefited from working classes going on holiday and playing bingo.

User avatar
SarahHartley,

4th presentation is looking at phd research into objects and identity. Museums can help African communities in Britain by helping with understanding of collections and objects brought to UK by colonial past. Possible to interpret collections as new identities, a way of telling stories.
5th Mike Nevell from school of built environment. Looking at how to assess significance and impact. Going to be a lot of community archaelogy going on over next 4years in Greater Manchester.

User avatar
SarahHartley,

3rd. Image and Idylle. Looking to create logos for individuals which reflect their social metworks - not just social media, also offline. Wants to find cross sectoon of Salford people, create a logo which helps create wellbeing and identity. Final results could be an exhibition to share the ideas. Anna Catalani islooking for recruits to take part or suggest people.

User avatar
SarahHartley,

The first presentations are in a pecha cuture format i.e. Fast track slides for set time scales. The first one, fittingly for today, looked at Salford's war experiences and the Pals movement. The 2nd is about older people and museums.
